Painting Matters Team

  • Aidan Redmond

    Founder & CEO

Aidan RedmondThe boss who is on the Job

Aidan is the Director of Painting Matters and has been painting for over 25 years. When he first came to New Zealand he worked for Rockfern Painters where he gained valuable experience working with Savory Construction on the building & painting of the Pak n Save supermarkets nationwide. After a few years he felt he had gained enough experience and skill to go out on his own and through hard work and a solid work ethic he has built Painting Matters up to be the reliable, professional company that it is today. He is experienced in all aspects of painting including waterblasting, sanding, priming, finish coating, plastering and repairs. Aidan’s main strength is running the jobs. He has great communication skills and is dedicated to making sure the team get the job done on time and to his high standards. He also has personal experience in property investing so can add a lot of value to your project from the knowledge and skills that he has gained from property investing himself. He has lots of contacts with the other trades and can recommend builders, electricians and plumbers that he would trust to work on your home if you require it, like a one-stop shop.

Aidan came to New Zealand from County Wexford, Ireland in 1989 for a year’s overseas experience. He liked it so much he stayed and has been married to Siobhan for over 25 years. He has 2 great young adult children, Kieran and Cushla and a large family of 6 brothers and 3 sisters back in Ireland, plus over 20 nieces and nephews. When he’s not in his overalls he enjoys anything to do with property, going to the gym, fishing, the odd game of golf, cycling, movies and spending time with the family. He loves sport so much that he has earnt himself the nickname “Deputy Minister of Sport”. Nowadays he is more the armchair critic but in his younger days he played Gaelic football, hurling, tennis and football. He also loves travelling especially back to Ireland to see his parents and family and enjoys the odd pint of Guinness!

  • John O’Connor

    Chief Finance Officer

    John O’Connor

Sadly, John passed away in 2019 but as he was such a valued member of our team, we have chosen to keep him on the website in remembrance of a lovely man and a great painter. Another Irishman (originally from County Limerick) John had been in New Zealand since 1973. He had 5 sisters and one brother. He was originally a drainlayer and barman but for the last 20 years of his life he had been in the painting industry. He joined Painting Matters in 1995. You always knew John was on the job because you could hear him either whistling or singing! John enjoyed the horses and sports on his days off. John will be sadly missed by the Painting Matters team.
